ROMANO FENATI CHIUDE IL MONDIALE AL QUINTO POSTO

altValencia, 9 novembre 2014.

SKY RACING TEAM VR46 FIRST AMONG THE ITALIANS IN MOTO 3

ROMANO FENATI CLINCHES FIFTH SPOT IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP

FINAL SPRINT FOR FRANCESCO BAGNAIA, HELD BACK BY THE WEAR AND TEAR ON TIRES

Valencia, November 9, 2014. The very first season of the Sky Racing Team VR46 ends with Romano Fenati as the first of the Italians in the Moto3 ranking. At the Grand Prix Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana, the Italian rider crosses the line fourteenth, but secures fifth place in the overall standings, his best result ever.

Sky’s commitment to the promotion of talent has given birth to a team that cultivates the potential of promising young Italian talents thus making its part in reviving Motorcycling in Italy.

A season beyond expectations, with 4 wins and a total of six podium finishes for the team set up by Sky together with Valentino Rossi’s VR46, who has revived Italy’s expectations from the Moto3 Championship. Of the 51 races run in his young career in Moto3, Fenati clinched almost all of his victories and his own podium finishes in this very season.

Francesco Bagnaia’s performance was good for the first part of the race but then he was forced to slow down in the traffic also because of the wear and tear on tires. He finishes sixteenth.

Sky-VR46 sports management“Today’s race was already lost right from the start given in qualifying we had only clinched fourteenth spot. Then Romano got stuck in the traffic on such a track were overtaking is very hard, so it was tough. During the winter we will be working to refine strategies and gain positions in qualifying. Sometimes Romano struggles to pull out the last two tenths with the soft tire, and two-tenths means three rows. So when you start from behind on tracks like this then it becomes impossible to come back. Too bad because when the road was clear he was pushing as hard as the leading pack riders.

Pecco run a good race, although in the end he could not pull back positions because of the traffic. However, we are satisfied with his grit and determination”.

ROMANO FENATI: “Getting away from so far behind in Valencia made it all much more complicated as it is a narrow track and overtaking is not easy at all. At the outset of the race I got stuck in traffic and did not manage to come back. Fifth in the World Championship ranking, I am very happy as I improved my position from two years ago. For me it is an important achievement, then all I have to do is start from here and do even better next season”.

FRANCESCO BAGNAIA: “In a race like this, deeply felt and hard fought from beginning to end, it was hard to keep up with the others. The first part of the race was good, but then the wear and tear on tires did not help me”.
