Moto 3: FENATI 2° POSTO, RIPORTA L’ITALIA SUL PODIO CON LO SKY RACING TEAM VR46

Milano, 13 aprile, 2014. Romano Fenati riporta l’Italia sul podio con lo Sky Racing Team VR46, regalando grandi emozioni in Texas al Gran Premio d’America: il giovane pilota azzurro parte dall’ottava posizione, va a caccia di traiettorie impossibili e in pochi giri supera tutti chiudendo al secondo posto (41’06.728), battuto da Jack Miller per appena 69 millesimi. A distanza di due anni un pilota italiano torna finalmente tra i primi tre nel campionato minore e quel pilota che a Misano 2012 aveva raggiunto il terzo posto era stato sempre Romano Fenati. Il terzetto di testa composto da Miller, Vazquez e Marquez è stato stravolto a quattro giri dal termine, con Fenati che ha dato vita a una volata strepitosa, tagliando il traguardo da secondo.

Incredibile anche il risultato di Francesco Bagnaia (41’27.040), che ottiene il suo miglior risultato in carriera con un settimo posto ancora più prezioso se si considera che quella di Austin non è la pista che più gli si addice .

“Abbiamo fatto una grande gara – il commento del team manager Vittoriano Guareschi –. Romano è riuscito ad assottigliare progressivamente il gap dei primi giri, superando tutti gli avversari e la cosa più importante è che non ha commesso errori. Siamo rimasti tutti concentrati dopo la giornata difficile di ieri e abbiamo ottenuto un grandissimo risultato di squadra, il migliore. Stamattina abbiamo fatto un warm up con una piccola modifica di set up gli è piaciuta e gli ha permesso di girare forte sin da subito, anche se non potevamo essere sicuri di sarebbe andata a finire”.

ROMANO FENATI: “Sono punti importanti che portiamo a casa, oggi non immaginavamo di arrivare sin qui. All’ultimo giro pensavo che gli altri avrebbero staccato prima di me, ma lo hanno fatto troppo tardi, poi Miller ha lasciato un po’ i freni. Rispetto al Qatar avevamo un’usura della gomma posteriore diversa: stavolta è calata piano, piano, non subito. Questo problema ce l’avevamo venerdì, quando le gomme non duravano neanche 2 giri. Ieri abbiamo parlato con il team e abbiamo cercato una soluzione. Nel warm up avevamo un gran passo e quindi ho cercato di spingere dall’inizio. Poi, con le gomme nuove cercavamo di andare più avanti possibile non sapendo effettivamente se si sarebbero consumate tanto, poco o piano. Ma è andata bene”.

FRANCESCO BAGNAIA: “Per come è iniziato il weekend, è andata molto bene perché questa pista non mi fa impazzire. Fare un buon risultato ad Austin è un’ottima impresa. Qui l’anno scorso non era andata bene per me, è anche per questo che il risultato di oggi è migliore di quello ottenuto in Qatar due settimane fa (10° posto, ndr). Adesso sono ancora più fiducioso, abbiamo trovato altri spunti su come utilizzare la moto e siamo ancora più preparati per la prossima”.

Guareschi: “A fantastic result for the team”

Milan, April 13, 2014. Romano Fenati brought Italy back on the podium with the Sky Racing Team VR46, giving us great emotions in Texas at the Grand Prix of the Americas: the young Italian rider started eighth on the grid, chased impossible race paths and in a few laps overtook everyone and finished in second position (41’06.728), defeated by Jack Miller by just 69 milliseconds. After two years, an Italian rider is finally back in the top three in the smaller class championship, and it was the same Romano Fenati who reached the third place at Misano in 2012. The leading trio formed by Miller, Vazquez and Marquez was overturned at four laps from the end of the race, with Fenati performing an amazing sprint and crossing the finish line second.

Incredible result also for Francesco Bagnaia (41’27.040), who reached the best result of his career with a seventh position even more valuable if we consider that the Austin track is not the circuit that best suits him.

“We ran a great race,” commented the team manager Vittoriano Guareschi. “Romano was able to gradually cut the gap of the first laps, overtaking all his rivals. And the most important thing is that he didn’t make any mistakes. After the difficult day of yesterday, we remained all focused and we got a great result for the team, the best one. This morning we did a warm-up with a small set-up change, he liked it and it allowed him to keep a good pace right from the start, even though we could not be sure of how it would end.”

ROMANO FENATI: “We bring home important points, we didn’t imagine to get such a result today. On the final lap we thought that the other riders would hold off before me, but they did it too late, and then Miller speeded up a bit. We had a different rear tire wear compared to Qatar: this time it dropped slowly, not immediately. We had this problem on Friday, when the tires lasted not even 2 laps. Yesterday we spoke with the team and we looked for a solution. In the warm-up we had a great pace and so I tried to push right from the start. Then, with the new tires we tried to go as far as possible, since we didn’t actually know if they would have consumed a lot, little or slowly. But it went well.”

FRANCESCO BAGNAIA: “Compared to how the weekend had began, it went very well, since I don’t like this track very much. Getting a good result at Austin has been a great challenge. Last year, it didn’t go well for me here, and it is also for this reason that today’s result is better than the one reached in Qatar two weeks ago (10th position, editor’s note). Now I’m even more confident, we found other ideas for using the bike at its best and we are even more prepared for the next race. “
